Welcome!
Dear Reader,
Product | Strategy | Innovation is a newsletter with long-form profiles and shorter updates for readers interested in the leaders, companies and products that make our lives better. We work hard to bring actionable insights you may find helpful to start, lead or invest in the trends we cover. We aim to release a new issue at least twice a month.
We are certainly living in unprecedented times. Digital therapeutics, edge computing, artificial intelligence, robotics, electric battery storage, genomics, blockchain and other technology platforms are converging to create exponential advances over the coming decades. Innovation in different forms is the primary driver.
Breakthrough Innovation
The newsletter was started following a tweet encouraging Elon Musk to form a holding company to organize all of his business interests under a parent company called X. We responded with a profile on Why Holding Companies Kill Innovation. And then we followed up with Architecting an Alternative Business Structure for X that is highlighted in our figure above. And finally we provided an overview of a proxy to create, fund, accelerate and scale new companies. This proxy is Flagship Pioneering with its biotech spin-out Moderna demonstrating the creation of a new company and a breakthrough product with its own Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine.
Disruptive Innovation
In a series of posts on disruptive innovation, we covered Wright’s Law and the linear decrease in unit production costs associated with every doubling of unit production. We also discussed How Steve Jobs disrupted Intel. And finally, we covered How to Disrupt a Pandemic. We also shared insights into Innovation by Subtraction highlighting the Arcimoto Fun Utility Vehicle or FUV.
Deep Dive, Long-Form Company Profiles
Founder, owner and operators are a rare breed who have thrived in the era of technology-enabled innovation. We also cover these leaders and their companies.
The newsletter and its contents are not investment advice. It’s important to do your own research. We aim to be a part of that research, helping to better understand trends and ideas as part of our own due diligence.
The opinions and views expressed in this newsletter are those of the authors. They do not purport to reflect the opinions, views or policies of any other organization, company or employer.

The title for each issue includes a sequence number in brackets like [E1] for the 1st issue or Episode. If the issue is a series, the format will look like [E1.3] for 1st issue and 3rd post in the series. Updates follow a similar format, but appear as [U1]. Some updates may serve as a sprint to help build a long-form profile.
Thank you for your interest.
Best,
