[U30] Leadership: facing an extreme challenge
President Zelensky is leading Ukraine to defend freedom and democracy
Dear Reader,
This Update in Product | Strategy | Innovation will be short. Leadership is vital to the success of any organization. Sometimes leadership maintains focus and a sense of urgency to advance a project when tasks seem ordinary and routine. But leadership can also require facing fear and an extreme challenge head on while your country and the rest of the world evaluate every decision you make.
The events in Ukraine over the last few weeks are significant. The assumption was the people of Ukraine would surrender within days of a “special military operation” by an authoritarian regime. President Volodymyr Zelensky has a different plan for Ukraine, freedom and democracy. Ukraine and world leaders have responded.
In his 2019 inaugural address, President Zelensky urged government officials to resign if they were not willing to work for change. And he urged Cabinet leaders not to put his portrait on their office wall as was customary to honor their President. He informed these officials the President is not an icon, idol or a portrait. President Zelensky said, “Hang your kids’ photos instead, and look at them each time you are making a decision.”
May peace prevail,
Stephen
I’m long Ukraine, freedom and democracy mentioned in this update. Nothing in this post is intended to serve as financial advice. Do your own research.
